A thought just struck me, and I'd be interested if anyone has an answer for it. If United play 11 v 11 practice matches amongst themselves from time to time (I think it is a fair assumption that they do), who are the other 2 to play centre back other than Collins and Maguire? To me, that is the area we need cover, and I see little or no cover there at present. Any ideas anyone?

We're all too worried about strikes and getting lots of them and grumbling if the don't score. Who makes the final pass? Burnley sold their top scorer and instead of buying another, they moved another player as striker - and he's now leading scorer. Moral - it's who passes the ball to the man up front that matters - not the scorer! {Ed003's Note - Burnley never moved Ings or Vokes they were just behind Austin in pecking order plus they couldn't afford to spend but you do make a good'ish point behind the majority of the players mentioned is Keiran Trippier best full back in the championship imo}

Maguire got 5 yellows so misses midweek match. Clough in radio interview says Hill will deputise. I would have preferred to see if Coady could have done the job, seen as how he played centre back at Anfield before coming to us. I know he prefers midfield, but that was where they were playing him.

We need to splash out on a big, charismatic centre-half in January, someone like Sean St. Ledger, Byron Webster or Marius Žaliūkas.

Blades, Notts County and Wolves are all said to be interested in taking Newcastle United's Haris Vuckic on loan before the emergency loan window shuts next week.

Another striker? Haven't we already got enough with Bunn, Murphy, de Girolamo, Miller, Baxter, Eyre, Smith, Taylor, Porter, and King? 10 fighting for 2 places is surely more than enough. If the manager decides they are no good for us at present, then I hope he sells or ships them out on loan (like Ironside) before bringing in anybody else.

Vuckic is a midfielder not a striker. Baxter is an attacking midfielder. Bunn will be gone soon. Eyre and Smith are yet to make a first team appearance. We have a big striker problem. Porter and Taylor are joint top scorer from up front with two goals each. King and Baxter are second with one goal each. We will start winning games when strikers start scoring goals. That is six goals all season from attacking players. It is nice that Collins and Maguire have scored a few goals but they shouldn't be our top scorers, a striker should be!

It's defenders we need!

As the old saying goes 'attack is the best form of defence'. If the ball is in and around the opposition's box, it won't be anywhere near ours. If we had decent strikers, then the oppositon would have less chance to attack us.
